A data scientist consultant provides a very different function than an in-house data scientist working on a single dataset. The data scientist consultant is front and centre with clients helping them to better understand their data from the ground up and is key in creating true data-driven organisations.

Your day to day activities might include:

  • advising clients, building proof of concepts and implementing solutions around machine learning, advanced analytics and big data problems
  • helping clients integrate traditional structured data with modern unstructured data
  • working through a clients’ entire data ecosystem to understand what’s available, what’s missing and where to find and collect that information
  • running sprints / validating concepts / showing the immediate impact of your data
  • advising on advanced analytics and quantitative tools and modelling techniques in order to derive business insights, solve complex business problems and improve decisions

In this role, you will shape the future of what data-driven organisations look like, drive processes for extracting and using that data in creative ways, and create new lines of thinking within a variety of clients and situations.

No two days are the same in the consulting world and you’ll be using your data science skills across multiple industries and clients solving real business problems.

About you:

As a data scientist management consultant you will have a strong mix of mathematics, stats, technical and client facing skills. You will be comfortable talking to technical, non-technical and business executives and be able to explain complex ideas in a simple, relatable format to all levels of a business.

Key skills might include:

  • Experience with advanced analytic techniques, including machine language and artificial intelligence
  • Proficiency in R, SAS, SPSS or other statistical package
  • Ability to work with relational databases such as SQL, Access, PostgreSQL, etc. and knowledge of distributed database systems (Hadoop, Spark, MapReduce) is a plus
  • Knowledge of additional programming languages is a plus (Python, C++, Java)
  • Experience in managing multi-person tasks, achieving quality, timeliness, and affordability
