HMRI is a world leading translational medical research institute, working in partnership with the University of Newcastle, Hunter New England Local Health District (HNELHD) and the community to improve health outcomes in our region and beyond.
The CReDITSS team consists of 1 senior statistician, 8 statisticians, 1 data manager and 2 bioinformaticians. The unit consults to and services a broad range of medical researchers providing assistance at every step of the research process, from helping with research applications (e.g. statistical analysis plans, sample size calculations), providing study design advice, choice of instruments, setting up research databases, providing web-based randomization and data-entry, analysing data, and writing up results.
Two particularly rewarding aspects of the unit’s work are the variety of statistical methods used, and the variety of projects that it assists with, covering such areas as asthma, stroke, trauma, obesity, cardiovascular disease, cancer, genetics, pregnancy, endocrinology, and health services. Our applied areas of research span clinical trials through to observational research (including analysis of very large health data sets).
