The Centre for Health Informatics (CHI) is one of three research centres in the Australian Institute of Health Innovation (AIHI). Founded in 1999, CHI is the longest-running digital health research centre in Australia. CHI is a research partner to major healthcare providers, research institutions and governments, and has national and international industry partnerships.

The Role
We are seeking a talented, enthusiastic researcher to join the new NHMRC-funded Centre of Research Excellence in Digital Health. The Post-Doctoral Research Fellow will have expertise in undertaking rigorous systematic reviews, as well as the evaluation of complex health service interventions. They will conduct a series of rapid reviews of the research literature over the project lifetime, prioritised by the CIs and with input from an Expert Scientific Committee.

The Post-Doctoral Research Fellow will also help conduct an analysis of success factors and failure modes for digital health applications, and help develop best-practice models for the implementation of digital health systems.

Expertise in qualitative and quantitative methods will be expected, and an understanding of implementation science models would be desirable.

The successful applicant will have the opportunity to work with the Centre’s chief investigators and a diverse team of highly experienced and internationally recognised senior health and biomedical informatics researchers and front-line service providers to tackle the fundamental challenges that impede the creation of truly safe, efficient and effective digital health services for both clinicians and consumers. The team will make crucial contributions to national digital health policy and practice by translating these insights into improved digital health design, implementation, performance and surveillance.

Selection Criteria:

  • PhD in Health Informatics, Health Services or Population Health, Computer Science, Software Engineering, Mathematics, Statistics or a related field.
  • Strong background in quantitative and qualitative research with exceptional analytical skills, including an outstanding track record in peer-reviewed publications.
  • Experience in undertaking rigorous systematic reviews.
  • Strong written and oral communication skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to contribute to academic life, administrative tasks of the Centre and a commitment to diversity in the workplace.
  • Demonstrated ability to work both independently and as a member of an effective team.


  • Ability to secure research grant funding, relative to experience
  • Understanding of digital health applications and implementation science.
  • Experience in successful research supervision.
  • Ability to develop partnerships with industry and/or professional bodies.
  • Demonstrated academic knowledge in the discipline and a capability to deliver high quality learning and teaching, including the delivery of programs, lectures and tutorials.

This position would suit applicants with an interest in developing and evaluating digital health applications and best-practice models for the implementation of digital health systems for clinicians and consumers.
