Generation Victoria (GenV) is a new whole-of-state Research initiative led from the Murdoch Children’s Research Institute (MCRI), aiming to transform large-scale Children’s Research in Victoria.
We currently require a Full Time Biostatistician (Research Officer) on a 12 month contract to join the GenV Program. This position will be responsible for biostatistical leadership within the Gen V project, as it takes shape over the next few years. The appointee will engage in a broad range of activities related to Gen V, including collaboration with and support for emerging Gen V related research, and to the broader training and translation activities of Clinical Epidemiology & Biostatistics Unit (CEBU).
You will also be responsible for:
- Contributing to the development of the Gen V data repository, by providing expert enduser statistical input.
- Leading analyses of LifeCourse cohort study data including linked administrative data, to produce research outputs in collaboration with Gen V researchers and to test the data repository structure.
- Supervision of junior staff performing data cleaning and data preparation, in conjunction with the Gen V IT team.
- Providing analyst input to discussions and bridging work between Gen V and Royal Children’s Hospital (RCH) data, including potential problems and novel topics arising in modern clinical informatics (e.g. high-density unstructured data and computationally intensive analytics such as machine learning).
- Liaising constructively between Gen V and the range of analytic and related expertise that already exists within CEBU.
- Providing advice regarding potential future Gen V initiatives (e.g. grant proposals for pilot studies, early analysis etc.).
- Contributing to epidemiological research projects as a biostatistical collaborator.
- Undertaking methodological research that is relevant to primary responsibilities within Gen V and its developing needs.
- Contributing to the supervision and mentoring of research students.
- Presenting research seminars at team meetings, workshops and conferences.
- Contributing to the training and research support activities of CEBU and the GenV team.
Key Selection Criteria
To be successful in this role you will have:
- PhD in biostatistics or equivalent research experience with Master of Biostatistics or similar.
- Experience in applying (and preferably in evaluating or developing) statistical methods for longitudinal epidemiological studies.
- Excellent statistical computing skills including experience in performing complex data manipulation and statistical analysis using either of the statistical packages R or Stata.
- Record of postdoctoral research output as evidenced by publication of peer-reviewed scientific articles.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Demonstrated ability to work independently and collaboratively to achieve project goals and meet agreed deadlines.
- Familiarity with issues related to health research, principles of confidentiality, privacy, and information handling.
- Working with Children & National Police Clearance (if appointed) in compliance with the Victorian Governments Child Safety Standards.
